Broadcasting Your Aspirations Scholarship Essay - Rachel Pilkington
I grew up in an age of technology that has influenced my life and my aspirations greatly. I have always loved to cook and I am planning to major in Culinary Arts Management at the Culinary Institute of America. Watching the Food Network on television has been an awesome inspiration for me in my food adventures. I have been inspired by all of the chefs and cooking shows on the Food Network. I aspire to be a chef on the Food Network one day inspiring other young people who have a passion for food. One of my favorite shows on The Food Network has been 30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray. What I like about this show is the realistic element. On the show, Rachael Ray makes simple, affordable meals in 30 minutes. One great thing about this network is that they have cooking shows that range from very simple and easy to follow to much more complex shows for the experienced culinarian. Television networks such as this one have been instrumental in helping people to realize their passion and full potential. The Food Network has also been an awesome tool for learning various kitchen skills. In my opinion, the age of television has helped to broaden the horizons of many young people today. While there are some programs on television that may not have shaped the next generations in the best ways, there are also so many that have. Many people forget the vast advantages of television, such as inspiration for college or careers, while arguing against the disadvantages. After graduating from college, I hope to use my degree in Culinary Arts to inspire others just as I have been inspired by the chefs on The Food Network. Some television programs also do a great job of influencing the morals of young adults. Shows such as Seventh Heaven, Blue Bloods, and other wholesome TV shows are great influences and the characters are good role models for young adults. Television has become something that is present in almost everyone’s daily life and naturally the influence is going to be prominent. Because of the vast influence that television has in people’s lives, it is a great tool for influence, change, and inspiration. There are some disadvantages to the readily available influences of television when the influences aren’t always good. It is my opinion, however, that the good outweighs the bad. Television is an important part of our society and it should be protected and upheld. This scholarship will enable me to go to college and earn a degree that will provide me with the skills and credentials needed to rise to the top of my field. In my career, I want to inspire and teach those around me and through the use of technology and television, I will be able to reach more people who share my passion and who are looking for the inspiration that I got through The Food Network. This scholarship would enable me to reach my goals.
